Vilanova i la Geltrú's fishing tradition is still part of its everyday routine, especially in the parts of town that are near the sea and particularly close to the port.
Today maritime life is a mixture of old and new.
The visitor will find signs of an intense maritime past, for example the Marine Curiosities Museum, and also be able to see the latest fishing technology at the Llotja (fishermen's market).
A visit to the Llotja is recommended when the boats come in and the fishermen unload their catch. Take a stroll along the eastern breakwater and watch them at work; it is a unique experience.
To round off your visit, try one of the local seafood dishes on offer in the town's restaurants.

From Mondays to Fridays, morning and evening, as soon as the boats come in, automatic auctioning process goes into action. The auction is open to all members of the local fishing guild.
